Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
References to, or use of, illegal drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
A content label, not a money rating. We read it from each game's official age-rating descriptors and show the strongest level any board gives.
What it covers
Drinking, smoking and drug use shown or mentioned in the game, from a tavern in the background to a character taking drugs, or the player doing it for a bonus.
How the rating boards label it
Australia's Classification Board uses 'drug references' and 'drug use' at every strength, up to 'High impact interactive drug use' at R 18+, where the player takes part.
The ESRB separates references (Alcohol Reference, Drug Reference, Tobacco Reference) from use (Use of Alcohol, Use of Drugs, Use of Tobacco).
PEGI's Drugs descriptor covers illegal drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and always comes with PEGI 16 or 18.
Mild, moderate and strong
Mild: references, or alcohol and tobacco in the background (ESRB references, Use of Alcohol or Use of Tobacco, ACB G or PG).
Moderate: drug use shown, or drug references at M (ESRB Use of Drugs, ACB M, PEGI 16).
Strong: strong or high-impact drug use, especially drug use the player takes part in (ACB MA 15+ or R 18+, PEGI 18).
