Hogwarts Legacy

Released 10 February 2023 Developer Avalanche Software Publisher Warner Bros. Games

A single-player action role-playing game set in the wizarding world about a century before the Harry Potter books. You play a student at Hogwarts who attends classes, learns spells, brews potions, tames creatures and explores the castle and the countryside around it while uncovering a secret linked to a goblin rebellion. It suits teens and adults who enjoy the setting and a long open-world adventure.

Fair: pay clearly, know the ceiling

A one-off purchase: A$89.95 on Steam and Switch, A$109.95 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and A$99.95 on PS4 and Xbox One. A Dark Arts Pack (a mount, outfits and a battle arena) costs A$29.95 on its own or comes in the Digital Deluxe Edition, which is A$99.95 on Steam. I found no in-game currency, loot boxes or battle pass. Digital copies are often heavily discounted; on 22 October 2026 Steam and Xbox had it 85 to 90 per cent off.

    Game Informer

    Matt Miller · 10 February 2023

Called it a remarkable, long adventure that captures the feel of the Harry Potter stories, praising the world, exploration and combat while noting a thin main plot, limited enemy variety and some technical hiccups.

    Destructoid

    Chris Carter · 10 February 2023

Judged it a solid, fun game for Potter fans with great atmosphere and music, held back by dated, cluttered open-world design and an unoriginal goblin storyline.

    DualShockers

    Kyle Knight · 12 February 2023

Found it an immersive version of the wizarding world that adds little new to role-playing games, with a thin story, clunky menus and limited enemy variety.

Age ratings judge content (violence, language, gambling themes), summed up in the content labels above. They say little about how hard a game pushes spending — that's what the money badges are for. About rating boards

Single-player: there is no online play, chat or player-made content in the game. Ratings boards still carry 'online interactivity' (Australia) and 'users interact' (US) tags, and I could not confirm what online features they refer to. The content is the main consideration: spell combat against creatures and people, dark magic and supernatural themes (rated M in Australia).
