Sex and nudity
Sexual references, innuendo, sexualised imagery, nudity and sex scenes.
A content label, not a money rating. We read it from each game's official age-rating descriptors and show the strongest level any board gives.
What it covers
Everything from flirting and innuendo to sexualised character designs, nudity and sex scenes. Sexual violence is listed here and under violence.
How the rating boards label it
Australia's Classification Board uses 'sexual references', 'sexualised imagery', 'sex scenes' and 'nudity', from 'Very mild' at G to 'High impact' at R 18+.
The ESRB uses Suggestive Themes (mildly provocative references), Sexual Themes (references to sex or sexuality), Partial Nudity (brief or mild), Nudity (graphic or prolonged), Sexual Content (non-explicit sexual behaviour) and Strong Sexual Content (explicit and/or frequent).
PEGI's Sex descriptor goes on sexual posturing or innuendo at PEGI 12, erotic nudity or intercourse without visible genitals at 16, and explicit sexual activity at 18. Non-sexual nudity doesn't trigger it.
Mild, moderate and strong
Mild: innuendo, suggestive outfits or mild references (ESRB Suggestive Themes, ACB G or PG).
Moderate: sexual references, partial nudity or implied sex (ESRB Sexual Themes or Sexual Content, ACB M, PEGI 12 or 16).
Strong: nudity and sex scenes (ESRB Nudity or Strong Sexual Content, ACB MA 15+ or R 18+, PEGI 18).
