Child-safety enforcement

A regulator, court or settlement has dealt with harm to children, their privacy, or marketing aimed at them.

Harmful · Serious findings

Harm to children is the most serious thing a company's record can show, and here a regulator, court or settlement has dealt with it.

What it means

An official body has acted over how the company treated children: collecting their data without a parent's consent, exposing them to strangers through default settings, failing to stop exploitation on its platform, or pushing purchases at them. The action may be a fine, a court order or a settlement, and the badge sits on the company whichever of its games was involved.

How we apply it

We add it where the subject is harm to or exploitation of children, children's privacy (such as COPPA in the US or the GDPR's rules for children), or marketing aimed at children. It needs a regulator's action, a court finding, or a settlement that includes a payment or an admission; a private settlement that only requires changes to a game, with neither, goes on the track record as an event. Allegations, lawsuits still in progress and news reports alone don't earn it either, and the note says what happened.
