The Pokémon Company withdrew Pokémon TCG Pocket card art after a tracing complaint

A Chinese artist said the art on a new Ho-Oh card in Pokémon TCG Pocket closely copied a piece they had been commissioned to draw in 2021. The Pokémon Company apologised, pulled the Ho-Oh and Lugia cards it affected, said the fault lay with reference material it had supplied rather than with its illustrator, and in August 2025 added replacement artwork.

Pokémon TCG Pocket's trading feature drew complaints and was redesigned

When card trading launched in Pokémon TCG Pocket, players criticised its 'Trade Tokens', which had to be earned by giving up other cards, and some said they would cancel the $9.99-a-month premium subscription. The Pokémon Company International said the restrictions were meant to prevent abuse by bots and multiple accounts. In March 2025 the developers announced that Trade Tokens would be removed and trades would use another in-game resource instead.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company sued Palworld maker Pocketpair over patents

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair, alleging that its game Palworld infringes multiple patents, and sought an injunction and damages. Pocketpair said it would fight the case, and in 2025 it changed some Palworld features, saying the changes were a result of the litigation. No ruling had been reported in the sources reviewed.

Chinese court awarded The Pokémon Company damages over a copied mobile game

The Pokémon Company sued six Chinese companies over the mobile game Pocket Monster Reissue, seeking about $72 million and public apologies. In September 2024 it was reported that the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court had found the game infringed its copyright and ordered one company to pay over $15 million in damages. In February 2025 defendants that had appealed reached a mediated settlement that included public apologies.
