Cancelled projects and cut staff in EA restructuring

Respawn dropped two early-stage projects, one reported by Bloomberg to be a shooter set in the Titanfall universe, during EA cuts reported at 300 to 400 jobs company-wide. IGN reported that up to 100 Respawn employees could be affected; Respawn referred to 'targeted team adjustments' without giving a number.

  2. Monetisation

Reversed part of an Apex Legends battle pass change after player criticism

Respawn had announced that the Apex Legends premium battle pass would be split into two paid passes per season and could no longer be bought with Apex Coins, the in-game currency. After weeks of player complaints and negative Steam reviews, Respawn said 'You've spoken, and we've listened' and restored the option to buy the pass for 950 Apex Coins from Season 22, while keeping the split.

  4. Monetisation

Changed Apex Legends' Iron Crown event after loot-box pricing criticism

Apex Legends' Iron Crown Collection event put most of its new cosmetic items in paid loot boxes; Kotaku calculated that unlocking the full set and its top item cost about $170. After player criticism, Respawn made the event's exclusive items available to buy directly in the store, except the top item, and CEO Vince Zampella apologised to fans who were offended.
