Dark Souls PC online servers were switched off after a security flaw
Online PvP servers for the PC versions of Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III were deactivated in January 2022 after a remote code execution vulnerability was found that could let attackers take control of other players' computers. Dark Souls III's PC servers returned in late August 2022; in October 2022 it was announced that online services for the 2012 PC Prepare to Die Edition would not return, citing an ageing system. GamesIndustry.biz reported allegations that publisher Bandai Namco had been told of some vulnerabilities as early as 2019.
